PRIDE 2007 - My Dedication
PRIDE 2007 - What does it mean to me?
I often ask myself why do we have to celebrate the fact that we are well dressed, well spoken, often quite intelligent and well off and of course good looking then the norm?
I guess to show off the ugly side of being "Here and QUEER". Being able to hold your significant others hand down the street proudly as each one secretly undresses the hot Go-Go Boys on the Rich's float or the sexy Go-Go Girls on the Flame Float, or make that subtle glance of lust to an on looker passing by. Ah yes...GAY PRIDE.
As the TV Cameras hone in on the most FLAMBOYANT GAY MALE out there or the BUTCH'est "DYKE" with the Elvis Do and Sideburns, where even the twinks are cruising her thinking its a really cute guy...(I've done that!) Where Joe Idaho will say "BUNCH OF FAGS...they should all go to hell!" Unfortunately I can only control this method of information. The only thing I have in common with that person is 3 letters (G-A-Y).
To me the real spririt of Gay pride is...being able to laugh with my friends, thank the lord that I am still alive in a world filled with Drugs, AIDS and Alcoholism. It's a time to say...I am not, nor will I be a statistic. I am just a human being who loves, who hurts, who bleeds, who lives, who will die just like everyone else.
I am PROUD of my FAMILY, my heritage(s) and most important I am PROUD of MYSELF!
I have seen the pitfalls of hell and have been able to swing right on by, HOWEVER not unscathed, but very well the wiser.
This weekend is to rejoice who I am, who my friends are, whether they are GAY, Straight, Bi-Sexual or A-sexual, and how PROUD I am for having known each and everyone one of them. EVERYONE in my life has made a definite impact on my life and how fortunate I am to still be here with you! To those of my friends and loved ones who have passed from this life...I dedicate this weekend to you.
Those people in my life are what I am PROUD of most this weekend.
HAVE A SAFE and SANE PRIDE!
